Both Buddhist teachings and personal experience show that we suffer to the extent that we are attached to things being a certain way -- grasping for what we want, or in aversion to what we don't want. At the same time, life energy resides in our desires and longings, and in moving towards what we value. How can have the aliveness and sense of direction that come from fully want ing what we want, while remaining openhearted about the possibility of not getting it? Please join CNVC Certified Trainer Bob Wentworth to experience an exploration around this issue. This workshop is an experiment, so please come prepared for anything to happen!
(Buddhism is not the focus of this workshop, just a point of reference. For an article on this subject from an NVC perspective, see Mikki Kashtan's article in Tikkun.)

One Sunday afternoon a month our facilitated group meets in Baltimore to practice Nonviolent Communication skills and address questions of communications and connection. To help orient "newbies" we usually spend about half an hour focusing on basic NVC principles. It's no surprise to "oldies" that this adds depth to our understanding too.
We then focus on a specific skill or tool. In August we will look at "Right/Wrong Thinking".

Life is sweet when all family members are happy, respectful, and enjoying themselves and each other. But how do we weather the lack of sleep, the outbursts, and the rebellion that periodically arise in our children, in our partners, and in our own hearts and minds?
Nonviolent Communication is an approach to life in which we connect to the needs and values that motivate all behavior before we speak or act. Then, when upsets occur, we can intentionally respond with honesty and compassion instead of reacting in ways that can stimulate more pain and disconnection.
Children learn what they see their parents live. But it is not always easy to live in accordance with our values. Join us for a workshop that offers ways to turn conflict into cooperation by exploring skills we can use to live more fully the lives we’ve imagined.
The “Our Children, Ourselves” workshop will be held on Saturday, August 28, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The requested financial contribution for this training is $45-$90 (you decide the highest amount you can contribute with joy and ease). All adults are welcome to attend, regardless of ability to contribute financially and regardless of whether or not there are children currently present in their lives.
Please contact me, Lynd Morris, if you’d like to register for this event or if you have any questions about this training.

How many times have you expressed something to your partner that was really important to you but you didn’t feel heard in the way you’d intended? Or how many times has your partner expressed dissatisfaction for the way you’ve listened (or not listened) to him or her?
It was this decades-old “disconnect” that led my husband, David Steigerwald, and me into our exploration of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We’ve learned a lot about ourselves, each other, and how to stay connected even when we are upset since our introduction to NVC in 2004. Now we are sharing with other couples the skills and practices that have been most effective in bringing us more deeply into relationship with each other.
This is Part I in a series of workshops we are offering to help couples understand each other while enhancing/restoring the hope, joy, and love that drew both partners to each other in the first place. These trainings are designed for all couples—from newcomers to NVC to couples in which one or both partners have many years of NVC experience. The workshop include large group work as well as partner practices that are playful as well as meaningful. Because we'll be coaching participants in exercises designed to enhance relationship, we request that both partners in each couple attend.
The next “NVC for Couples-Part I” workshop will be held on Saturday, August 28th, from 1:00-5:30 p.m. The requested financial contribution for this training is $125-$250 for each couple (you decide the highest amount you can contribute with joy and ease). All couples are welcome, regardless of ability to contribute financially. Please contact me, Lynd Morris, to explore if you have questions.
