Respectful Parents, Respectful Kids Practice Group

Please join us on Thursday, May 7 as we begin to create our parent group, inspired by the practice of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We hope to meet twice monthly, on 1st and 3rd Thursdays.

We will gather from 9:30am-11:30am
Location in Reston, Virginia

NVC developed by Marshall Rosenberg, PhD, is both a practice and a consciousness for connecting with oneself and others across our differences. It teaches us ways to translate criticism and conflicts into needs and requests that can be met. In other words, by learning and practicing the skills, we become that effective and loving parent we all strive to be. At the end of the day, parents and kids get what humans really want....connection.

Our trained facilitator, Louisa Davis says, "Building up one’s awareness of one’s needs in each moment, and at the same time practicing listening for the needs of others (in interdependence), we realize that all needs matter--and finding ways to meet needs together is at the core of personal, family and world peace.”

Familiarity with NVC is not required. We will be using the book, "Respectful Parents, Respectful Kids: 7 Keys to Turn Family Conflict into Cooperation" by Sura Hart & Victoria Kindle Hodson as a guide. The book is available from Amazon for $10.85.*
